Block 78 Moh Guan Terrace. A building with a road cutting through it.


This is Tiong Bahru. The name means Tiong = cemetery, Bahru = New. A macabre name, yes.

The area was a Chinese cemetery up to the 1910s/20s when the then colonial government begun redevelopment of the area. The 20 public housing blocks were built in the 1930s, a blend of the vernacular Shophouse typology and the apartment typology.
